Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury Review

Brilliant mouse for first-person shooters, great for everything else.

October 10, 2019

First Person Shooters require a mouse with a very specific set of features, which you can’t necessarily find on MMO-specific or general-purpose mice. Enter the Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury, a mouse purpose-built to shoot heads off of hysteric Nazis, zombies or a combination of both (because Nazi zombies are still a thing, apparently).

As much as it is built to satisfy FPS players, the Hyperion G402 can accommodate a wide range of genres just as gracefully. But don’t believe us – here’s our Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury review, where we’ll cover all the relevant aspects regarding this reliable mouse.

What we played: Divinity: Original Sin 2, Darkest Dungeon, Battle Brothers, Rainbow Six: Siege, Dawn of Man, Mount and Blade: Warband

DESIGN LOGITECH G402 HYPERION FURY DESIGN

logitech g402 hyperion With its upwards curvature and slightly inclined finger rest, the Hyperion G402 is very similar in terms of design with the Corsair Dark Core RGB. However, what the G402 lacks in weight (more on that later) compensates with versatility and ergonomic design.

When it comes to first-person shooters, you’ll want something lightweight, but not so lightweight that you can launch it in outer space with the slightest flick of the wrist. This is the main feature that recommends the Logitech G402 as a brilliant first-person shooter mouse.

With its upwards curvature and slightly inclined finger rest, the Hyperion G402 is very similar in terms of design with the Corsair Dark Core RGB.

To be perfectly honest, this design choice didn’t sit very well with me, because it seemed like one of those things that are novel just for the sake of being novel, without having a clearly defined purpose and influence on the overall experience.

However, I slowly grew fond of it. It’s a really handsome mouse, and to top everything off, it doesn’t look good just for the sake of being good – it has an actual, practical purpose…

COMFORT

…namely, to ensure a maximum amount of comfort. The peripheral is long and low to the ground, letting a player’s hand rest comfortably across the whole mouse in a natural position. The design is purpose-built to facilitate two gripping styles, both the palm and claw grip, providing plenty of resting space for the hand.

The buttons are spread uniformly across the mouse, which eliminates the issue of accidental button-pressing.

Morever, it fits any hand size, so if your hands are bigger or smaller than average, this mouse got you covered.

Build

Compared to other gaming mice, G402 is quite lightweight. In most cases, this would be the telltale sign of a cheap and unreliable product. While, personally, I too like my gadgets to have a weighty feeling to them, the low weight is totally justified in the case of this mouse.

When it comes to shooters, where aiming and precision are key, the last thing you want is strutting a brick against your desk. You want something that encourages flexibility and versatility, and the G402 offers these things in spades thanks to its ergonomic build and low weight.

Compactness

Despite its novel and elongated form, the G402 doesn’t take up more space than it needs to on your desk. Its custom-built to accommodate nearly all desk setups. It’s sleek, comfortable and unassuming, which is exactly what you would need as an avid FPS player.

CUSTOMIZATION

The G402 comes with a relatively conservative number of buttons (eight), which users can configure for almost any activity. To accomplish that, Windows users can download Logitech Gaming Software, where they’ll find settings to customize macro buttons, change LED settings and set DPI levels.

There are four DPI settings, which range from very precise (250 DPI) to super-fast (4,000 DPI). By using the company’s official dedicated software, you can add a fifth customizable DPI setting.

This is where the list of pros ends because sadly, the Hyperion G402 lags behind in terms of customization, at least compared to other mice on the market. The software doesn’t have a dedicated macro library, which means you’ll spend a lot of time remembering your favorite commands and manually inputting them into the software.

NOISE

If you’ve ever used other Logitech mice – say, the G502 Proteus Spectrum -, you’d think that the G402, too, can cause a racket. Imagine our surprise when we realized just how silent this mouse is, so hello late night gaming sessions.

This wraps up our Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury review. When it comes to first-person shooter mice, few options are better than the Hyperion Fury. Its upwards curvature reminiscent of the Corsair Dark Core makes it very comfortable to use, while the lightweight build and materials ensure precision, versatility and a high degree of ergonomics.

All in all, we highly recommend this mouse if your gamer in general, and an avid first-person shooter fan in particular.
